Drug addiction is one of the greatest problems that celebrities battle with. The reason is not farfetched. Most celebrities think they need drugs to enhance their performance. For example, musicians when invited to perform on stage for long hours may take drug to help themselves endure the long hours and also to keep up the energy needed for the running about.

Wrestlers on the other hand take drugs to enhance their muscles and absorb the pain of the hits they take while performing their acts. Those drugs seem harmless at first but after a while, they get to the point where they cannot act unless under the influence of the enhancement drugs – the point of addiction.

Some of the celebrities that have lost the fight to drug addiction

In recent times, the world has lost most of her musicians to drug addiction including the likes Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and so on. The story even gets uglier when you come to the world of wrestling where performance enhancement drugs like steroids are a norm. In the last decade, the world of wrestling world has lost some of her great performers like Chris Benoa, Ultimate warrior, and the queen of the ring, Chyna.

Is it possible to break free from drug addiction?

As hard as it may seem, it is totally possible to break free from addiction and many celebrities have won the battle and keeps living a normal life free of drugs even as we speak. Their stories are diverse backed by different motivations as to why they started the fight. Some of them are as follows;

1. Eminem

The rapper whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers is almost a household name because of his fast past energy filled rap. Even the rehab couldn’t help his Valium and Xanax addiction at a point in his life till Elton John helped him get over the behavior.

2. Slash

If you remember the popular prolific rock band, Guns n’ Roses, then you will not fail to miss one of their guitarist by name Slash. After his diagnosis with a congestive heart failure, his wife encouraged him and together, he was able to overcome the habit.

3. Robert Downey Jr.

The Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr. is a comic character whom everyone has come to love for his flying suit. Long before he starred in the treatise, Robert was a chronic drug abuser and tested jai in 1997 but finally scaled through in 2003.

4. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston starred in the movie, ‘Friends’. While shooting the movie, she struggled to break free from her abusive love for tobacco. Her breakthrough came in 2007 when she took a total detox and now uses exercise to fight her addiction.

5. Jon Stewart

One of the celebrities that began struggling with drug addiction from a very tender age is Jon Stewart, the presenter of ‘The Daily’.He started battling with his addiction from a young age of fifteen. It took the jibe of CGL Foundation to get him break free from the addiction from 2000 till date.

6. Oprah Winfrey

Oprah is one woman that has given voice to the women folks and continues to be a source of inspiration to many. Oprah once said she used crack cocaine in the eighties but obviously, that is not her anymore.
