All of us will experience heartburns at some point of our lives. The uncomfortable feeling can cause burning sensation. Medical experts say that heartburns are a result of acid reflux which happens when the muscle that passes food to the stomach relaxes. This leads to acid being formed in the stomach and it is released up into the food pipe to create a burning sensation. However, there are some home remedies that will help with heartburn.

Baking Soda Can Stop Heartburns

Baking soda can help the acid reflux because it neutralizes the acid in the stomach. Just mix one teaspoon of baking soda into a cup of water. Drink this water and you will feel relieved. You can drink this as many times in a day but make sure that you do not consume more than seven teaspoons of baking soda in a day. Since baking soda has a high content of salt, excessive consumption can cause nausea and swelling.

Aloe Helps Soothe the Stomach

The juice made from aloe plant will soothe the stomach and ease heartburns because it has anti-inflammation properties. Consider drinking half a cup of chilled aloe juice before having meals.

Chewing Gum Causes Instant Relief

Research has shown that heartburns can be treated by chewing sugar free gum for about thirty minutes after having a meal. Chewing gum will allow more flow of saliva which will dilute the acid or wash it away, thus improving the symptoms of heartburn.

Elevating the Head Makes Sense

The symptoms of heartburns aggravate in the night. The lying down position can bring the acid of the stomach up to the esophagus causing heartburns to worsen. Consider raising your head while sleeping. Make sure you do not lie down within three to four hours after having a meal.

Watch What, When and How You Eat

Consider eating small quantities rather than stuffing food into your mouth. Taking small bites will give the stomach some time to digest food and will not produce excessive acid. Certain food items that are rich in acid like tomatoes, citrus fruits, oily and spicy foods will cause heartburns and should be avoided. Make sure you do not lie down within three to four hours of having food.

Apple Cider Vinegar Cuts off Heartburns

Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it immediately. This drink will prevent heartburns and make you feel better. Try drinking this mixture before every meal or at least three times a day. Make sure you do not drink too many glasses as it can cause heartburns to recur.

Bananas Heals Heartburns

Medical experts say that the antacids present in bananas can fight acid reflux. To prevent heartburns, consider eating ripe bananas every day. You can also eat an apple a few hours before going to bed to prevent heartburns or to relieve the uncomfortable sensation.

Drink Gingerroot Tea

Gingerroot has anti-inflammatory properties that will prevent nausea and heartburns. Consider drinking a cup of gingerroot tea twenty minutes before taking meal. By doing this, you will feel much relaxed. Add few slices of gingerroot into two cups of boiling water and simmer it for thirty minutes. Drink this mixture twenty minutes before the meal to prevent heartburns.

Mustard Neutralizes the Acid

Mustard contains vinegar which has lesser amount of weak acid. The alkaline properties of mustard can soothe the acid. This can be very helpful for strong heartburns. Though it has a very bad taste, the effect it has on heartburns will make you happy. Try having one teaspoon of yellow mustard to relieve the discomfort caused due to heartburn.
