Those suffering with eczema have a very tough life. It can cause unbearable discomfort. Eczema is a result of improper functioning of the body’s immune system and because of inheriting a weak skin protecting barrier. Eczema is a term that represents various skin conditions that causes inflamed skin which is dry and where blisters and crusts form on the skin. However, there are some effective home remedies that can be sought to treat the symptoms of eczema.
Coconut Oil Can Lock-In Moisture
Coconut oil can preserve the skin’s moisture and can help the skin from drying out, which causes itching. Gently rub coconut to areas that are affected with eczema and give some time to let it dry. You can apply coconut oil as many times as required in a day.
Jojoba is Wonderful for Moisturizing
Jojoba is a liquid wax that gets deep into the skin. The molecular pattern of this is similar to the skin’s natural oil. It contains alcohol which is good for moisturizing the skin. Just apply jojoba oil to the affected areas and make sure you gently massage the oil into the skin and keep massaging it until it is fully absorbed. Apply this at least three times a day to get maximum relief.
Soothing Butter Helps to Soothe the Skin
Body butter can relieve the itchiness from eczema. Oils of jojoba, Shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax have healing properties. All this can be combined to make a great soothing butter for the skin. It can soothe the damaged skin and reduce inflammation. Melt four tablespoons of jojoba and two tablespoons of beeswax and stir in six tablespoons of coconut oil. Reduce the heat and add two tablespoons of Shea butter. Cool the mixture and transfer this into an air tight container. Apply this on the affected areas as many times as needed.
Use Vegetable Glycerin to Restore Moisture
For some, the oils will not work. Such people can use vegetable glycerin. Vegetable glycerin can be soothing and can restore moisture to affected areas. It works by attracting water to it and then restores the moisture. When used in affected areas it will fill in with water that is drawn from the deepest areas of the skin. Take equal portions of glycerin and water and pour this mixture into a spray bottle. Spray this liquid to affected areas.
Take an Oatmeal Bath
The chemical components present in oatmeal have anti-inflammatory properties. It soothes the skin and relieves discomfort caused from inflammation in the skin. Oatmeal can also reduce itchiness. Take around a cup of oatmeal and cover it in a muslin cloth and tie it firmly. Fill the tub with warm water and immerse the muslin cloth with oatmeal into the water till the water turns white. Soak yourself in this water for about fifteen minutes. Dry with a lean towel.
Chamomile will Soothe the Skin
Chamomile is known to reduce inflammation and relieve itchiness and will heal the scars caused due to itching. Chamomile has natural alcohol called bisabolol that has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties that can reduce inflammation, itching and will keep all the germs at bay. Take four tablespoons of dried chamomile flower and wrap it in a muslin cloth. Fill the tub with water and immerse the muslin cloth in the tub of water. Soak in this water for about fifteen minutes and then gently dry using a clean towel.
Take Fish Oil to Cure Eczema
Fish oil has proven to reduce itching in many with atopic eczema. Fish oil contains N-6 and N-3 fatty acids that are important in maintaining a healthy skin. Consume fish oil everyday so that your body will produce more of N-3 and N-6. Mix fish oil in a glass of orange juice and take this drink every day to get rid of itchiness.
Sea Salt Bath can Revive Your Skin
A bath with sea salt can protect the skin. It exfoliates dead skin cells and cures eczema. Sea salt contains lot of minerals that can reduce inflammation, itching and improves circulation. A body bath with sea salt can be very soothing.
